Background/History: Nami does not know who are her parents. She was raised by a Marine named Bellemare where she found two girls in a town that was destroyed by pirates. The older one, Lilly was carrying little Nami in her arms. Bellemare raised the two children as her own, even though she did not have possess of money. They seemed to live a happy life on a tangerine orchard in Cocoyashi village.
All this changed when a vicious crew of merman pirates led by a half shark named Arlong. He conquered the village with no resistance and even demanded a "tribute" to his greatness. 100,000 Berries for one adult, 50,000 Berries for a child. If they could not pay they would be killed. The Arlong pirates confronted Bellemare after the entire town paid it's tribute. She did not the money to cover her and her children. In fact all she had was 100,000 Berries saved back. She attacked Arlong, in vain, but in the end gave 100,000 Berries to Arlong. Not for herself, but her two daughters, Lilly and Nami. Arlong than killed Bellemare. This was devastating to Nami, she lost a mother because (as she viewed it) poor. She vowed she would never be poor again.
long discovered Nami's talent for cryptography when he discovered one of her maps. Even at the young age of eight she has excellent skill and accuracy. Arlong made a deal with Nami. She can pay him 300 million Berries and she can have her town back. Until that time she must draw maps for him. She agreed and was tattooed with the mark of the Arlong Pirates on her right arm.
10 years later, she encountered a pirate named Luffy. From that point forward everything changed.
Personality/Motivation: Nami is very greedy because of a reason, she must afford to buy her town back. Even after her town is freed, she still grasps for money because of the way she used to she Bellemare was treated without much of it. She is also hunted by Marines, but mostly because she is ship mates with some big names like Zoro and Luffy. Nami also has a tattoo that is recognized as Arlong Pirates, but afterwards she has a tangerine/windmill mix. She covered the Arlong tattoo most of the time, so just add Extreme Reaction if she has the former.
She is very protective of her own village and will protect it if it gets itself into danger. Arlong uses this town to threaten her for 10 years.
She also has joined Luffy to get a map of world. She does enjoy making maps and she does want to be the best at doing it.
Powers/Tactics: Nami is a highly skilled navigator and cryptographer. She is not as skilled in combat. She does have a staff to protect herself, even getting a few good hits in now and again, she mostly sneaks around and lets other people do the fighting for her. She doesn't mind to fight if it is required of her.
Appearance: Nami is slightly above average height for a female in the One Piece world. She has orange hair and huge black eyes. She is thin and attractive, using this sex appeal to her advantage when she can. Nami is the only character in One Piece who constantly changes her clothing. Her favorite is a very short orange skirt with two circle patterns on the side and a blue and white striped sleeveless shirt. Before she replaced her Arlong Pirate tattoo she usually covered it with a longer shirt underneath. She wears anything from sandals to thick leather boots. Nami also carries her staff in three pieces under her skirt for concealable. She also has a tattoo of a needlenosed shark icon of Arlong. After his downfall, she replaced this with a tangerine growing out a windmill.
