Ecology: Vooniths dwell in the marshes and swamps of Earth's Dreamlands. A form of amphibian, they dig out deep burrows in mud and lurk just under the surface for their prey, which can range from fish and large salamanders, to such land animals as deer, goats, and even humans.
Personality/Motivations: Typical animal motivations.
Powers/Tactics: A voonith will wait just under the surface of the water or just inside its burrow, listening for the approach of anything on nearby land. Once its prey comes close enough, the voonith will burst up and out of the water, grabbing their prey in their forearms (or with their teeth) and dragging it back down into the water. The victim will then be both bitten and wrapped in the voonith's long lower body in tail, to be both constricted and suffocated (through drowning). Once dead, prey items are dragged back into the burrow to be devoured.
Appearance: A voonith has a long worm-like body roughly ten feet in length. The head is shaped like a large salamander’s and is equipped with sharp teeth. The two short forelegs are clawed for burrowing. They have large pale eyes and skin a pale pink or sickly yellow in color, covered in a scattering of gray carbuncles.
Designer's Notes: The voonith is a creature of the Cthulhu/Dreamlands Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. This design was based upon the voonith presented in the 5th Edition of The Complete Dreamlands. Vooniths can range in size from human-sized to Enormous. Game Masters may wish to add certain abilities, such as a specific vibration sense.
