REVENGE OF THE CREATURE OPTIONS
Cost	Powers
+2	"Strong As Any Ten Men": +2 STR (27 STR total)
+2	Remove Shuffling Walk
20	Can Find The Female Lead Anywhere: Detect Movie Heroine (No Sense Group), 360 Degree
	Perception, Range, Sense, Tracking

10	Psychological Limitation: Doesn't Like Bright Lights (C, M)
10	Vulnerability: 2 x STUN from Explosions (Uncommon)
Notes: In this film, the creature is brought into a Florida-based marine park. It seems to walk faster and is said to be even stronger then the original. The comment about the Dependence is made in this film, which doesn't exactly contradict the first film. It also doesn't seem to like bright lights, but is kept in a open water tank under the Florida sun.... The Detect and Vulnerability are listed due to the consideration of the plot. The creature is in a days(?), weeks(?)-long coma after dynamite is used to stun everything in the Black Lagoon, and manages to track the female lead to her motel on the Florida coast, miles from the water park where he was kept.

Notes: Tracking the creature in the Everglades, a team of scientists manage to capture it, but not after nearly burning it alive. Then then perform a little surgery, opening up its lungs (seems the creature is like a lungfish, with both gills and lungs), at which point the Gillman looses his gills, his outer layer of skin, and becomes more like a man in appearance. He seems even stronger, though, and takes several rounds from pistols and a rifle without falling.
The Creature From the Black Lagoon

Ecology: Found in a remote tributary of the Amazon River, the Gillman is said to be a relic of the Devonian age, a hybrid between man and fish. It tends to lurk at the bottom, hiding among the weeds, rising up to snatch fish, shore birds, small reptiles, and amphibians. It can come up out of the water for extended periods, but must keep its skin and gills wet, and never strays far from its aquatic home.

Personality/Motivation: Typical animal motivations. The Gillman seems to be aggressively territorial, and is known to violently attack anyone who strays into its pool. It's possible the species is solitary, each having its own territory, and only coming together at mating season. Curiously, the Gillman seems to have a fascination with human women, specifically blondes, and has been known to approach them without attacking violently (although there are reports of Gillmen carrying off women into the depths of their pools).

Powers/Tactics: The Gillman seems to be an ambush predator, lurking amid concealing weeds and plant growth before rising up to snatch its prey. It typically Grabs a prey item, using its great strength to crush its victim into submission. In encounters with humans, the Gillman has used its claws to savage its foes, often inflicting deep (and lethal) wounds. If injured or frightened, the Gillman is quick to leap back into the water, escaping into the depths.

Appearance: Standing roughly six to seven feet in height and weighing in at around 300 pounds, a Gillman has the appearance of a humanoid banded in thick plates. The hands and feet are webbed, while large gills around the neck. The coloration is greenish, with red and black markings. When angry, the Gillman is known to utter deep grating growls and roars.

Designer's Notes: The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of the classic Universal movie monsters, along with Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the Wolfman. It first appeared in The Creature From the Black Lagoon, then in the sequel Revenge of the Creature, and finally in The Creature Walks Among Us. Personally, I found all three to be lacking in story and terribly dated. I mean, everyone smokes (everyone), and the scientists (and others) kill animals with impunity. There's also the fact most of the lead characters are amazingly stupid (for being doctors and the like), and in the third film, one not only feels sorry for the creature, you actually want it to attack (and hopefully kill) the chief scientist, the "big game hunter," and the female lead—who likes shooting sharks for fun..... Oh, and lets not even get into the totally whacked science given in the series of films... I mean, the Gillman dates from the Devonian Age? However, none of this should stop you from using the Gillman in a Pulp-era adventure.

(The Gillman created by Arthur A. Ross, Harry Essex, Maurice Zimm (writers), and Milicent Patrick (designer), character sheet created by Michael Surbrook)
