Ecology: Kakutan appear to be related to the lung (Chinese dragons) and like the lung may eat only pearls and metal. Unlike the lung, it is presumed that the kakutan have a less extended life style (a lung can live for several thousand years) and breed much in the manner of normal horses.
Personality/Motivation: Typical animal motivations. As relatives of the lung, kakutan may serve as messengers or servants to more powerful dragons.
Powers/Tactics: A kakutan normally attacks by biting at a foe, or kicking with it's sharp hooves. It can also breathe fire, and will do so at an enemy it cannot reach directly. If hard-pressed or wounded, the kakutan will flee, running a great speed.
Kakutan are said to be able to cast spells, usually relating to the weather.
Appearance: A kakutan has the body of a large horse with the head of a Chinese dragon. The horse body is usually brown or black, while the dragon head is brighter colored, such as red, orange, yellow, blue, or some combination thereof.
Designer's Notes: The kakutan was found in GURPS Fantasy Bestiary. It would make for a must unusual steed in a fantasy game.
