Background/History: Steven Seagal is a rather well known action star who has appeared in a number of movies (most of them bad) in the past few years. A high ranking aikido blackbelt, the movies typically showcase his martial skill. Seagal seems to play the exact same character, or a variant thereof, in every movie he's in. He's usually a narcotics/vice detective, or ex-special forces. Invariably, he's drawn into the action by an attack on his family or friends and he doesn't stop until his opponents are captured (or more likely) dead.

A short list of his films include: Above the Law (his best—which isn't saying much), The Glimmerman, Hard to Kill, Marked for Death, On Deadly Ground (his worst), Out for Justice, Under Siege, and Under Siege II.

Personality/Motivation: Seagal's disadvantages are rather self-explanatory. His family/friends usually form the focus for the plot and it's the harm brought to them that provides the spark that sets him off. Note: "Justice not Law" means just that, Seagal will usually hunt down the offending party if it's the last thing he does. Such things as "due process of law" are pushed aside in his quest to extract vengeance on the offending party(ies).

Quote: "One thought he was invulnerable, the other thought he could fly. They were both wrong."

Powers/Tactics: Seagal demonstrates a number of common aikido moves, combined with pure cinematic hokum. He usually demonstrates an assortment of strikes, takedowns, throws, and joint locks, all of which look painful. Added to this are the usual dash of cinematic punches and kicks. His constant "Block-Counterstrike" move has been worked in as a damage shield. He has demonstrated proficiency with a number of weapons, notably the staff and staff-like weapons (pipes, pool cues, and so on), and swords.

Since Seagal is usually ex-special forces or a police officer, skills have been chosen to reflect this. The selection is based on several movies, GMs should alter the content depending on the exact background they want.

Seagal's fighting style is usually to block first, and then strike, followed by a takedown. If the opponent is armed, then usually it's a block, joint lock or joint break (to disarm his enemy), followed by a throw. Moving targets usually get thrown. Anyone who is stunned or on the defensive will get a rapid series of strikes.

Appearance: Seagal is very tall, standing something like 6' 4" or so. This is an advantage in aikijutsu as it allows him great leverage due to his long arms. His hair is black and always pulled back into a short ponytail. He usually dresses in dark clothing. Originally a fairly fit man, Seagal has gotten rather fat over the years.
