Lim.: Partially Enclosed Cockpit (Frequently, Greatly Impairing) Notes: A series had fully enclosed cockpits. 20 4) Soc. Lim.: Very Small Production Run, poor availability (Very Frequently, Major) Notes: 24 saw service, 1,000 were ordered but not built. Construction Notes: Fuselage: Welded steel tube, truss-type construction. Forward section with open (B-0) or enclosed (plexiglass] cockpit (B-1). Recess for back-type parachute in rear wall of seat. The fuselage center-section contains the entire power plant, the outer skin consists of removable doors, hoods and panels. Oval cross-section. The rear fuselage is fabric-covered with a rectangular cross-section. Crew Notes: pilot and some versions carried an observer facing the rear Cruising Speed Notes: Not Given Intended Uses And Roles Notes: Their roles included ferrying items between ships and reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the Luftwaffe began considering converting the Fl 282 for battlefield use. Until this time the craft had been flown by a single pilot, but now a position for an observer was added at the very rear of the craft, resulting in the B-2 version. The B-2 proved a useful artillery spotting aircraft and an observation unit was established in 1944 comprising three Fl 282 and three Fa 223 helicopters. Maximum Speed Notes: 80 kilometers Modern Survivors Notes: Fl 282 V-10 28368 Midland Air Museum, Coventry, England. Partial aircraft, frame with rotor head & wheels.Fl 282 V-23 was at one time to be found at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Dayton, Ohio. Name Translation Notes: Kolibri is German for Hummingbird Operational Endurance Notes: 2 Hours and 5 Minutes Operational Range Notes: 168 kilometers Operational Service Date Notes: 1943 Service Ceiling Notes: 10.825 Feet, Limited to 4,500 feet by operational constraints. Usage Note: Notes: The Fl 282 was designed so the rotor blades and landing gear could be removed and the helicopter stored in a compact area such as the pressure tank of a U-boat. There is no evidence that it was ever used this way. Total Disadvantage Points: 65 Total Cost: 65/5 = 11
