Background:
Cyan Garamond, in the tradition of his family, was raised as a master swordsman, military leader and loyal retainer to the noble house of Doma. He served his liege faithfully, and raised his son to someday take his place. His world was destroyed when the Imperial army, lead by Kefka, poisoned the river that fed Doma castle. Around him, his friends, family and lord all died.

Cyan went mad with grief and charged the imperial camp. A chance encounter with Sabin Figaro and Shadow saved him from the empire's retribution. After calming down and hearing their story, Cyan agreed to travel with them to fight the empire.

Personality/Motivation:
Although their deaths are behind him, Cyan is dominated by the grief of losing his wife and young son. He is often moody and prefers his solitude. Without his liege, he is dedicated to his personal honor, and will always fight fair. He only uses his swordtech skills against multiple opponents or a single stronger foe. This traditional upbringing in the modern world has also left him somewhat uncomfortable around, and even scared of machines, particularly advanced vehicles such as steam trains, airships and the empire's magitek armor.

Tactics/Powers:
Cyan's training is dedicated to mastering the sword. He wields a katana, and is trained in advanced sword techniques, or swordtech that makes him a powerful foe. Cyan is constantly training and improving himself; consequently, he continues to develop new swordtech skills. Note that while he needs a sword to use his swordtech skills, they aren't linked to any specific sword; hence the OIF: weapon of opportunity.

Appearance:
Cyan is a tall and lean man, very fit and healthy despite his fifty years of age. He wears his black hair long, tied in a ponytail with a blue ribbon. He has a narrow face, with a creased brow and a long, droopy mustache. He always wears the blue and black traditional armor of Doma. He always speaks with formal language, using archaic expressions such as "thou."
