Francoeur the Monster
Francoeur the Musican

Background/History: It is 1910 and Paris has been flooded when the Seine rises 20 feet over its banks. None of this mattered to Francoeur. who was a flea living happily in the fur of Charles the proboscis monkey, until a chance encounter with a variety of chemicals (including an unstable fertilizer and a liquid that gives one the voice of an opera singer) turns him into a seven-foot humanoid flea. Confused by the transformation, Francoeur fleas the Botanical Gardens where the accident occurs and ends up hoping around Paris, trying to make sense of his new surroundings. Eventually, he’s found by Lucille, who sings at the club L'Oiseau Rare (The Rare Bird). Although initially terrified by his appearance, she soon discovers Francoeur has a lovely singing voice and makes him part of her stage act. Meanwhile, Prefet Maynott, Paris Police Commissioner has vowed to track down and kill the “monster” terrorizing Paris, figuring such a deed will both take peoples’ minds off of the flood and make him a shoo-in for position of mayor of Paris.

Personality/Motivation: Francoeur, despite his size and appearance, is a gentle giant. He’s utterly fascinated by music, be it the dripping of water on empty bottle and cans, a door bell, or guitars and pianos. His true desire, it seems, is to be a musician and join Lucille on the stage.

Quote: None. Francoeur can chirp, but can’t speak. He can sing, but needs to hear music in order to do so.

Powers/Tactics: A a human-sized flea, Francoeur can leap hundreds of feet in a single bound. He is also somewhat bulletproof, as least from most handguns, quite agile and quick, and possess four arms. He’s also a musical prodigy, picking up instrumental skill with amazing speed. He learns the guitar in perhaps no more than fifteen minutes, and goes from hiding in a piano to composing on it in about a day.

Appearance: As mentioned, Francoeur is a seven foot tall humanoid flea. His back is covered in thick spike-like hairs, as are his arms. His skin is pale blue around the face, darker elsewhere. His large eyes are reddish-yellow, his chin small and pointed, with two mandibles or antenna poking down.

Designer's Notes: Francoeur is from the wonderful French CGI film A Monster In Paris (Un monstre à Paris). I’ll readily admit I’m not 100% sure about some of his character sheet—such as his INT (he picks up musical instruments really fast!), his STR (at 15 STR he’s twice as strong as the average 10 STR human), and certain other elements (suggestions welcome!). That said, he does make for a very strange pulp-era NPC; he could also be a Star Hero alien, or even a Fantasy Hero creature of some sort. Oh, and by-the-way, his Leaping is the correct distance for a flea the size of a six-foot human!
