Background: The Creature is an evolutionary “missing link” between hominids and reptiles, and lives in the depths of the Amazon River. Apparently only one at a time ever lives in a given area, and it’s processes of reproduction remain a mystery to science (though some speculate that the creature is capable of interbreeding with humans, or at least is evolutionarily driven to try.) In 1949 an expedition into the depths of the Brazilian jungles discovered the existence of the creature in a mysterious lagoon. The creature was attracted to a female member of the party and tried several times to abduct her (and also tried to prevent the humans from leaving the lagoon with a clever trap), but failed and was driven off.
The Creature was found several months later by an agent of Cagliostro and brought to England, where he’s kept it in a large tank in preparation for his master plan. Cagliostro has managed to make rudimentary telepathic contact with the Creature, and has promised not only to release it but provide it with both a secure lagoon and a human bride if it will assist him in acquiring the Amulet of Life. It has never met any of the other PCs.
Roleplaying Notes: Although the Creature is considerably smarter and more sophisticated than most humans ever suspect, it’s desires and needs remain simple and primitive. It desires nothing more than to be left alone, preferably in a quiet, still swamp or lagoon with sufficient food and the occasional beautiful human female to mate with. Cagliostro has managed to use his remarkable scientific apparati to communicate with the Creature on a telepathic, nearly empathic level, and has convinced it that he can provide it with a protected paradise free forever from human interference, as well as an unlimited supply of comely mates, if it will only assist him in this one task. The Creature is not naturally trusting of any humans, but so far Cagliostro has been true to his “word,” and unless circumstances change it will continue to trust the strange human.
The Creature has little understanding of human activities, and is content to pass most of its time sleeping in the vat Cagliostro has constructed until called upon. It does feel more connection to beings that like itself are primitive and “close to nature.” If matters go awry, it’s first instinct will be to kill whatever’s in it’s path and make it’s way to the nearest large body of water.
