Description: Illya Kuriakin was born in 1931 in Kiev. He served in the Russian navy in the 1950s, at least part of the time on a submarine but also in Naval Intelligence. At some point in the past he also studied at the Sorbonne and quantum mechanics at Cambridge. He joined UNCLE in 1956 after all of this, suggesting he was probably quite the child prodigy, which might explain why he was selected as one of the Soviet Union’s representative agents for the international peacekeeping organization. While he’s proud of his Russian background, he’s not a particularly fervent Communist, and certainly enjoys the occasional materialist trapping (like his impressive record collection.) Indeed, if pressed he rarely considers himself as having any particular nationality, seeing himself and his fellow UNCLE agents as “citizens of the world.”
Kuriakin is “a quiet agent, a tinkerer, a scientist, an intellectual.” While his social skills occasionally seem a bit limited, he’s a capable mimic and can blend into the background of any scene, and his old-school manners are impeccable despite his occasional brusqueness with people he doesn’t respect intellectually. He’s also the type to get his hands dirty—he likes to mess around with mechanical devices, defuses bombs for fun, and actually enjoys the sneaking around and wall-climbing that goes with his job. As his skill list shows, he’s a compulsive collector of hobbies and arcane areas of study. He loves old movies but hates television.
Illya is about 5’8 and 140 lbs, with thick blond hair in an unruly mop (that he’s fairly vain about.) He wears glasses for reading.
