Background/History: Tech Sergeant Angie Winterfox possesses a distinction unique not only among her fellow officers, but the population of the world—she’s the only human with a Clade parent. How Angie became the adopted daughter of Captain Chrysine Winterfox is a tale in of itself, but suffice to say, it involved an orphanage, an odious spirit known as the Bogeyman, and the ghost of slain XSWAT Sergeant Skipper McElroy, better known to young Angie as “the Blue Lady.” It ended with the Bogeyman destroyed, the orphanage saved, an eight-year old Angie vowing to follow in McElroy’s footsteps, and Chrysine with an unexpected (but not unwanted) complication in her life.
Growing up with a Clade for a mother wasn’t easy, but Angie persevered; she felt it was far better than the alternative. In any event, she and Chrysine grew closer and closer as time passed, till nether could really image life without the other. Angie also found she had a rather unique look at life in XSWAT; as the daughter of a respected and decorated officer, she met and befriended many in the upper ranks of the force, coming to call such notables as Director Jamadigini Renuka, “Aunt Jama”, with the Director’s husband being “Uncle Mitch.” This relationship also enabled Angie to gain an internship to XSWAT at age 16, giving her a chance to prepare for an eventual admission to the academy at an early age, as well as spending time with Director Renuka developing her ability to see and speak with ghosts and spirits.
In due time, Angie attended the XSWAT Academy, graduating at the age of 22 and promptly enrolling in medical school. Now she divides her time between the XSWAT pathology lab, where she conducts autopsies and the like, and school, where she studies anatomy and biology. Having long-since recognized, that unlike her Combat-Class mother, she’s not field officer material, Angie is more than happy to work in her lab, supporting XSWAT’s operations behind the scenes.
Personality/Motivation: Having to deal with the stigma of having a Clade mother from narrow-minded humans, as well as being a human living in Roar Sector (this from equally narrow-minded Clades), has resulted in Angie often taking refuge in audacity as a defense mechanism. When she was younger, she tended to be fiercely protective of her mother, never mind that Chrysine is 6’3” of ex-Lace & Steel Combat Clade. As a teenager, she found acting the role of the “drama queen” often helped to break the tension, not to mention her exaggerated mannerisms were usually sufficiently off-putting to drive away unwanted attention. Now, as a young woman, she’s become somewhat of a deadpan snarker, making semi-sarcastic or whimsical comments about whatever’s happening at the moment (as useful trait when dealing with some of the… things the XSWAT path lab ends up examining). That said, she still loves her mother dearly, calls Chrysine “mom” with sincerity, is dedicated to XSWAT, and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Quote: “Ahh... the XSWAT Path Lab, where there’s never a dull moment. I mean look at what’s on the slab. You're probably thinking ‘Angie, why are you dissecting a dog?’, but I've got news for you. That’s not a dog, it’s an imitation. So the question now is... ‘what's doing the imitating?’”
Powers/Tactics: Ever since the case of the Blue Lady, Angie has possessed the ability to see and hear the spirits of the deceased. As a pathologist, this has led to the rather surreal scene of Angie carrying on one-sided conversations with people no one else can either see or hear. On the other hand, it’s a highly useful talent for someone engaged in forensics work–very few pathologists can actually ask the corpse they’re working on “how did you die?”. Since training with Director Renuka, Angie has expanded this talent to spells and spell-like effects that affect the dead, meaning she can actually see certain necromantic enchantments.
Campaign Use: This character sheet represents Angie Winterfox at the age of 24, right before the events described in the story Another Manic Monday. For a post Monday Angie, give her an additional +1 OCV with XSWAT Weaponry and a Contact with the vampire Jasad (8-, extremely useful Skills or resources, good relationship). Jasad, for his part, takes on himself to occasionally check up on Angie, and calls her “young Winterfox” for the rest of her life. If you decide you need a more powerful Angie, increase her STR to 10, her DEX to 15, and her PRE to 15. Give her a Martial Arts package (basic self defense training), and make her +1 with XSWAT Weaponry cover All Combat. To make Angie less powerful, reduce her DMCV to 5, her SPD to 2, remove her Contacts, her Combat Skill Level, and her +2 with Intellect Skills.
Appearance: Standing 5’10”, Angie is tall, slender, and attractive. Her eyes are dark and she wears her black hair long, past her shoulders. When working, she dresses in the standard XSWAT nano-fiber bodysuit, boots (without the armor plate), surgical scrub tunic, and a lab coat (usually cut to be as long as possible). Off-duty, Angie wears current causal fashions.
