HARUMITO OSHIRO

1) What is the character's name?
Harumito Oshiro

2) What is the character's sex?
Male

3) What is the character's physical size?
5'9" Tall, ~150 lbs., well muscled, though not ala pro-wrestlers

4) What is the color of the character's hair, eyes, and skin?
Black hair, brown eyes, oriental-toned skin (Japanese)

5) What is the character's general appearance?
Typical Japanese features. He wears his hair long (to the shoulders) bound in a tidy ponytail. Muscular and athletically built, he moves gracefully and with an economy of motion.

6) Where was the character born?
Osaka, Japan

7) When was the character born?
Januray 9, 2009 AD

8) Does the character have any family?
Harumito has two older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister. They're named Tetsuhara, Hiraoke, Jojira, and Metsuke.

9) Where or how was the character educated?
Primay school in Japan. Partial Secondary schooling in Japan, followed by six months in Hong Kong as an exchange student, followed by two years in Indonesia. No college. Lots of street living and self-sufficiency in a variety of locations.

10) What did the character do for a living, previously?
Prize-fighting, tournaments, dance performances, and the occasional odd job here and there.

11) Who is hunting the character and why?
Soolik Nomeri and cronies still bear a grudge against Harumito. The intensity of the grudge has died down over the years, but they still would like to see Harumito gone. Harumito has also made enemies of various other criminal organizations whose plans he has disrupted a number of times. There are indubitably a number of opponents that he has defeated that still hold a grudge.

12) Does the character have any political beliefs? Religious?
Nothing significant. Harumito respects the traditional beliefs (Shintoism, Taoism, Hinduism, Bhuddism, etc.), but does not practice any of them very actively. The closest thing to a religious belief is his desire to affect the world for good as a net result of his actions. Nothing super chivalrous, though he is typically polite.

Politically, Harumito is a dense brick. Political rhetoric bores him, and he doesn't see much good being done by those in high government.

13) What is the character's moral code?
Protect the less well-equipped. Respect your elders (this isn't very strong). Don't abuse privileges or abilities. Do more good than harm. He likes the idea of personal honor, even extending into combat. But, as a citizen of the 'modern' world, the precepts of a personal honor code are often set aside for convenience. This will also likely change over time, to more of a real honor code (as Harumito becomes more secure in his abilities and becomes a true master).

14) Does the character have any goals?
Harumito is out to increase his skills and have fun. Eventually, he'd like to settle down (this will happen sooner than he thinks) and start teaching students. Finding something to fight for is a goal he hasn't realized he has. He doesn't need much in life. He'd probably want to continue visiting strange/foreign places, and experience the local culture.

15) What led the character to join the AMP?
After encountering a wave of relatively minor Entities, Harumito decided he enjoyed it. He could continue practicing, handling previously un-anticipated situations, and getting paid for something he enjoys. Unconsciously, Harumito discovered that he likes fighting for a greater purpose (something his Father has been trying to beat into his head). The AMP offers this (in Harumito's view).

16) What is the character's personality?
Irrespressible good humor. Harumito is not very patient, and prefers action to non-ending discourse. Especially when people get bogged down in details. Harumito much prefers having a good active time. He'll get serious when lives are on the line.

17) What is the character very good at?
Harumito is very good at fighting and dancing. He really enjoys doing both. His background has made him pretty good at sensing someone's honesty; a keen eye of character some would say.

18) Are there certain things the character just can't do?
Stay interested in a long boring meeting.

19) What does the character hate?
Fighting with his family (old ground). People who try to take advantage of him. Excessive abuses of privileges and powers.

20) What does the character love?
Physical exercises of all kinds, especially those that require skill. This includes martial arts, other sports, and his dancing.

21) Is there anything else I should know?
Isn't there always? See detailed history for more details.

Harumito was born on January 9th, 2009 AD in Osaka, Japan. His parents, Hohiro and Naomi, took him home a few days later.

Harumito is now 24 years old. He stands 5' 9" tall, and weighs approximately 150 lbs. He has typical Japanese features, black hair, and brown eyes. He wears his hair long (to the shoulders) bound in a tidy ponytail. Muscular and athletically built, he moves gracefully and with an economy of motion.

Typically, Harumito wears loose pants and silk shirts, though not loose enough to cause him problems during a demonstration of his abilities. When he knows in advance that he'll be fighting, such as a demo or prize fight, he'll switch to a traditional gi and normally go without a shirt.

Depending on the terrain, he'll either fight barefoot (required in some fights) or with a pair of sturdily-soled shoes.

Harumito has two older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister. They're named Tetsuhara, Hiraoke, Jojira, and Metsuke. His parents (Hohiro and Naomi) are still alive and living outside of Osaka. Both brothers and the younger sister also practice (to varying degrees) the family art of Kenjutsu. His older sister, Jojira, suffers from damaged tendons in the lower back. She practices Tai'Chi, primarily as a form of therapy for herself.

When Harumito was 15, he went on a exchange student stint in Hong Kong. While there, he became a little wild. He hung out with the more dangerous crowd, nearly a gang, though not very organized. Nothing really bad, just a serious attitude. Right before he left, Harumito entered into a prizefight for a bundle of money. He won, though barely, and took the pot. This was just the beginning.

The next year, Harumito went on an extended stay to a school in Indonesia. He did just well enough to stay in school, though he wasn't a solid academic performer. His after-school activities were a little more interesting. At first, he avoided entering more prizefights, though he did attend several as a spectator. This came in useful later on, when he was ready to enter as a contestant, as his observations of the regular contestants helped him exploit their weaknesses.

His offensive attacks were very good, though his defenses were rather poor. His fights had mixed results, though he attracted the attention of another master. Soolik Nomeri offered to teach Harumito better defense techniques in exchange for a share of his earnings. Naoive and eager to improve his abilities, Harumito agreed. At first, things went well. After a few months however, Soolik became more and more demanding. Claiming that sacrifice was a part of the requirements for mastering his Pentjak Silat techniques, he made Harumito do many things that didn't make sense at first. Slowly, a pattern became clear. Soolik was using Harumito as a minion building an empire through initimidation. Finally, Harumito noticed and forced a confrontation with Soolik. The argument became physical, and Soolik left Harumito a battered victim on the floor.

Harumito recovered fairly quickly, and started trying to correct the many things he had done for Soolik. For many of them, there wasn't much he could do. A few weeks later, his efforts were brought to the attention of another Pentjak Silat master, Nina Moroso. She spoke with Harumito and offered to train him properly, and correct the many flaws Soolik had introduced in Harumito's techniques. He accepted gratefully.

Harumito stayed under Nina's tutelage for his entire stay in Indonesia, and they grew to be good friends. She was extremely pleased to award his second black belt to him. Nina died in a car accident in 2007.

Harumito never managed to stop Soolik, or even locate him again. His effects were felt, and Harumito managed to interfere in several of his attempts to expand his empire. Soolik's minions occasionally tried to end Harumito's interference, but never managed to really slow him down.

After several months under Nina's tutelage, Harumito re-entered the prize-fighting scene, but only in the more respectable outlets. Due to his fear of Soolik's interference, he avoided the shadier fights, and thereby remained healthier than he otherwise would have been.

Ultimately, Harumito ran out of schooling, and returned home. He had visited home a few times while overseas, but never for very long. His parents were pleased to have him back at home, but he didn't quite feel the same. Things were different. He had changed a fair amount during his extended stay away from home. So there was a little bit of tension.

The tension exploded into a full-fledged dispute when his father learned of his prize-fighting. His father didn't feel that their art should be used frivolously. Harumito on the other hand, felt that the only way to truly improve and become a true master was to engage in battles where the outcome was uncertain. This attitude was part of the lasting effect that Soolik left on Harumito.

After a few weeks of a stand-off, Harumito left home and headed on a tour of the Pacific Rim. The tour lasted over six years. After two, he and his father came to an understanding, and Harumito started spending more time at home. Harumito avoids details of his prize-fights, and instead shares with his father their common love of travelling and the arts. But the issue of fighting for money or without necessity continues to dog their relationship.

The rest of his family is a little more understanding of Harumito's activities. His oldest brother is just a little better than his father in terms of understanding Harumito's desire to fight. His other brother doesn't really understand either, but accepts it and even admits that it has improved Harumito's style. Neither sister has a big problem with fighting this way, but are a little leery of the monetary aspect, believing that it will eventually lead him down mercenary path. Noone in his family yet knows that he has already been down that path, while in Indonesia.

To earn money on his travels, Harumito entered tournaments and prize fights, as well as spending a lot of time with a few dancing troupes. Dancing and the martial arts went well together, leading Harumito to incorporate a lot of each discipline in the other. During his travels, Harumito was exposed to the art of Jeet Kun Do, and worked to master it. His other martial training blended well into learning Jeet Kun Do. He continues seeking new techniques into his growing martial arsenal.

During his travels, Harumito continued many of the good things he worked on in Indonesia. He helped out those that needed it. He worked to counter the efforts of the various underworld organizations wanting to continue their quasi or completely illegal activities. During this time, he has probably made several enemies. People that would like to see him disappear. Permanently.

On his way back to visiting his parents one trip, Harumito happened to pass through Tokyo. Right at an onslaught of a wave of Entities. Though he'd heard of the Entity threat before, the actual experience is much harsher than the telling. He was able to defend against a few of them (even dispatched a few of the weaker ones), but ultimately retreated before the bigger ones. He interposed himself before Entities threatening other people, and in general was extremely helpful. In retrospect, he enjoyed it (though he's not quite sure why as yet).

Later, he applied to the AMP for a position as an officer. Much to his surprise, he was accepted, but for the LA office. This was acceptable to him; he hasn't spent much time in the USA yet. He completed the basic training program (moderate marks in the academic side, high marks in the physical side).
