ORIGINAL CHAMPIONS CHARACTERS

ORION BACKGROUND DATA

JURAI

Jurai is a star system several hundred light years away. It is inhabited by a race of beings who outwardly (and inwardly) resemble Earth's humans, with the only major difference being the highly unconventional hair and eye colors seen among people of Jurai (i.e. blue, green, blue-green, turquoise, red, purple, etc.). The current theory is Jurai was settled by humans from Earth some time in the distant past... a past so distant, no one has any records of it. In any event, the two races are interfertile, and can easily produce issue. Interestingly enough, children of such a union often exhibit potent energy projection powers of their own.

The people of Jurai have created a sizable empire for themselves, colonizing (and conquering) a number of surrounding star systems. Although not an overly aggressive or warlike race, the Jurai are quite capable of defending themselves. Energy manipulation powers, allowing for flight, energy blasts, beam swords, and defensive shields, are common. Members of the Royal Family all possess these types of powers, and are quite capable of defending the Jurai holdings pretty much on their own. Similar powers are common among soldiers, explorers, and those that spend large amounts of time away from Jurai space (diplomats, merchants, and some scientists).

Jurai technology is highly advanced, allowing for faster-than-light travel, subspace communication, hand-held energy weapons, and regenerative healing techniques.

Background: Ryan's father Nicholas is a mild-mannered individual who has a great love for the outdoors. He has been working for the Washington State Forestry Service since college, and currently is in charge of timber management for the Olympia Rain Forest. A dedicated champion of the environment, Nicholas realizes that there is a fine line drawn between conserving natural resources and still providing for people in the form of food and jobs. His duty is to make sure there is enough to go around for everyone, and barring that, to make sure what there is available isn't squandered uselessly.

A tall, handsome man with a rangy build that comes from spending a great deal of time outdoors, Nicholas is the anchor for Ryan's and Misato's sometimes hectic lives. He is the calming center of the trio, and can be counted on to give good advice when things look down, or when either Ryan or Misato are angry or unhappy. The fact that he has no form of paranormal powers is an asset in this relationship, as both his wife and son look to him to provide a stable viewpoint to events. In turn, Nicholas doesn't mind that he lives with two super-powered beings. In fact, he finds it relaxing in a way, since anything that anyone else is going through can't match the pure oddness of living with a wife who's a space alien.

As a side note, Nicholas Garret is a walking example of "Rule Number One of King Fu Movies" (don't mess with the family). Anyone—anyone—harming or attempting to harm Nicholas will soon find themselves facing the wrath of two very angry family members, and the wrath of Misato Garret can be a terrible thing to behold.

Nicholas Garret is a Normal Human with characteristics typical for one who spends a lot of time outdoors engaged in physically active pursuits. In addition, he is knowledgeable in the science of ecology and forestry, and well-versed in mountain and forest survival techniques. As a side note, Nicholas received a life-extension treatment while recently visiting his wife's family. This will allow him a life-span similar to Ryan's and Misato's. It may also allow for other, as yet unknown, talents. A good visual candidate for Nicholas Garret would be Bill Pullman from the film Lake Placid.
