Background/History: Once in 19th Century England, there lived a young girl named Drusilla. Drusilla was a pious girl who feared both God and her father on Earth, and wanted to please both. But when she experienced strange visions of events that somehow came to pass, her father said that her psychic powers were a gift of the Devil, not God. Drusilla thus became frightened of her visions, especially when they warned her of a handsome stranger who wanted to kill everyone she loved, knowing that they would never believe her warnings. And the stranger—the vampire Angelus—did indeed come to kill her parents and sisters, forcing Drusilla to watch in shock. She sought refuge in a convent, but the vampire followed her even there, posing as a priest at Confession and telling her that God had intended her to be a creature of Evil and to accept her fate. And when she was about to take her Holy Orders as a nun, Angelus returned, carried her off, and made her a vampire, the final step in his twisted plan to shatter Drusilla's mind.

Drusilla then spent her nights with Angelus and his lover Darla. This had to be a deeply strange existence, as Angelus was not only Drusilla's "Daddy", but her first lover and the monster that had killed her real father. Drusilla also wasn't much liked by Darla, perhaps because when she found out Darla was Angel's "sire" she started calling her "Grandmother." Desiring companionship of her own, Drusilla went out one night and sired a would-be poet named William, unleashing the demon within him. William soon changed his name to "Spike" and endangered Drusilla and the others with his blatant killing sprees. Nevertheless, Spike and Drusilla were inseparable, and the four vampires traveled together until just after 1900, when Angel seemed to go through a change of heart that led to his breakup with Darla.

Drusilla and Spike roamed the world by themselves for most of the 20th Century. But in the late 1990s, Drusilla was almost killed by a mob in Prague, and even though Spike rescued her, she remained listless and weak. It was thus that Spike took Drusilla to Sunnydale, seeking an occult cure for her condition, only to have every one of his plots ruined by Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Eventually, Drusilla, using a Tarot deck for divination, deduced that the key to the ritual Spike needed was the blood of her sire—Angel, who had since reformed and joined the side of Buffy and the monster hunters. This led to a fight between Spike and his hired assassins on one side against Buffy and the Scooby Gang, including the new Slayer Kendra, as Buffy came to save Angel from Spike. The end result was that the church where Spike set up the ritual caught fire, with he and Dru left for dead by the heroes. Unbeknownst to Buffy, however, while Angel was saved from death, Drusilla had taken enough of his blood to restore her strength—thus allowing her to rescue Spike from the wreckage. However, Spike was crippled by his injuries, and Drusilla switched roles with him, going out to provide for him while he regenerated.

Shortly after this, Angel lost his soul and joined forces with Drusilla and Spike. Strangely, while Dru despised the "good" Angel and blamed him for the death of her family, once he returned to his evil self, she became very drawn to him. Angel took full advantage of this while Spike remained an invalid, irritating Spike to no end. Most of the time, Drusilla's squeamishness and eccentricity made her a flawed right-hand woman for Angelus, but her psychic visions told her that Jenny Calendar was preparing a ritual to restore Angel's soul, allowing Angelus the opportunity to kill Jenny first. And when Angelus needed to kidnap Giles to solve the riddle to open the Gate of Acathla, Drusilla's unique powers made her very effective (see below). But Drusilla didn't predict that Spike's jealousy would cause him to conspire with Buffy to attack Angelus, and when Spike attempted his sneak attack, Dru became enraged at the betrayal and attacked him in turn. Spike was forced to subdue his girlfriend and carry her unconscious form away.

Spike ended up taking Drusilla to South America to retire, but a rift had grown between them. At the time, Spike thought Dru was still mad at his attack on Angelus, but she was actually experiencing visions linking Spike to Buffy, visions she couldn't interpret at the time. All she knew was that it became impossible to think of her lover without associating him with her mortal enemy. Unable to stay close to Spike, Drusilla started courting a local Chaos Demon, and possibly other lovers. Spike left for Sunnydale briefly, then tried to woo Drusilla back, at which point she told him about her visions of Buffy and challenged his inability to stay away from her. After this argument, Spike left South America for good.

Drusilla was otherwise unheard from until late 2000, when Angel's adversaries at the law firm Wolfram & Hart contracted her for a special job. They'd resurrected Darla as a human, and when she began to suffer the terminal effects of the diseases she'd caught in mortal life, a W&H acquaintance of Darla had Drusilla come in and sire Darla to restore her vampire status so that she would remain "alive". Angel reacted to this by meeting Darla and Drusilla in an old garage, using a pool of gasoline to set them on fire. The two vampiresses managed to escape, and Drusilla left Los Angeles going towards Sunnydale in order to find out what happened to Spike. To her dismay, she discovered that an experimental "chip" in his brain kept him from attacking humans and obliged him to coexist with Buffy and her friends. And while Drusilla was able to use her powers to overcome Spike's handicap so he could hunt again, when the two of them went to kill Buffy, Spike attacked Drusilla by surprise in order to prove himself to Buffy by slaying his first love. At this point Drusilla realized why her visions linked Spike and Buffy together, and why they caused her such foreboding. Drusilla escaped from Spike, and realizing that he was too obsessive and unbalanced even for her, left him once and for all. Drusilla's current whereabouts are unknown, but she may have returned to South America.

Personality/Motivation: Drusilla is, to put it diplomatically, a nut job. Insofar as her symptoms resemble those of a real mental illness, she seems to suffer from schizophrenia: She sees things that don't exist, ignores things that do, and generally seems 'not all there.' This makes her behavior erratic (thus it counts as a Psychological Disadvantage) but it doesn't seem to affect her sense of self-preservation. Despite her apparent frailty and eccentricity, Drusilla is just as evil as any other vampire, and is in fact more dangerous than most—as half the time, not even she knows what she's going to do next.

Quote: "I've been naming all the stars... but I've given each one the same name, and it's terrible confusion..."

Powers/Tactics: While the Buffyverse has no basis in White Wolf's VAMPIRE: The Masquerade game (there are no bloodline traits, for one thing) Drusilla is a pretty obvious analog to VAMPIRE's Clan Malkavian. The BtVS producers, like the White Wolf designers, seem to be under the conceit that insane people, especially insane vampires, have a special nonlinear wisdom that the rest of us lack. In Dru's case, she already had psychic potential which was triggered by her mental problems, and as Angelus drove her further over the edge, her powers increased, until by the time she was made undead, she had full-blown mental powers, and was fully mad as well. Drusilla's main ability is an extrasensory perception that sometimes allows her to see the future, or hidden things in the present. The problem is that her illness causes her true visions to be mixed up with her delirium, and the visions themselves are so vague and laden with symbolism that she cannot interpret them even if she knew how to communicate them.

Drusilla also has some telepathic ability, which she used to great effect at the end of BUFFY Season 2. Using classic vampiric mind control, she hypnotized Kendra long enough to kill her, and then captured Giles for Angelus to interrogate. In order to glean information out of Giles, Drusilla first probed his mind, and discovered his feelings of regret over the death of his girlfriend Jenny. So Dru used her telepathy (Mental Illusions, in game terms) to appear AS Jenny in order to befriend Giles and convince him to talk. Note that this is a very cunning use of Mental Powers in HERO terms, given that Giles was resisting both torture and mind control (appearing as Jenny effectively changed the commands from 'violently opposed' to 'wouldn't mind doing'). As the example shows, Drusilla might be physically weaker than the average vampire, but her psychic abilities more than make up for it.

Appearance: Drusilla is short, with pale blue eyes and long black hair. She is extremely pale and thin, even for a vampire, and when she was recovering from illness, she wore a flimsy white gown that accentuated her Gothic Lady Vampire appearance. Once she recovered her strength, Drusilla started wearing more modern clothes but retained a taste for flowing dresses and scarves. Drusilla talks with a thick English accent; astute listeners will note that the accent is lower-class, and really astute listeners will note that Drusilla uses idioms that are at least decades out of date.
