Background/History: Ricardo Ramirez grew up in the Hispanic barrio of Patriot City. Knowing no other life, he fell easily into gang activity and soon became a leader in the Diablos, who styled themselves the defenders of the barrio. One night, the Diablos were going to rumble with a white gang called the Vipers, and Ricardo went along, despite the protests of his girlfriend Estella. But before he could get to the fight, Ricardo was hit with a random discharge of Energy X (see Mentor's origin) and discovered to his amazement that he could set his body on fire and not be harmed. With a thought, he sent himself into the air, and for the first time Ricardo saw the entire city outside his barrio, and finally gained the wider perspective Estella had tried to teach him.
Flying back to the gang fight, Ricardo broke up the melee by displaying his powers. He told the Vipers and Diablos that he'd been given his powers for a reason, and he swore to use them to bring peace to the community.
Personality/Motivation: El Diablo is presented in the Freedom Force game as a pretty stereotypical 'hotheaded' and romantic Latino. Even so, he does seem like a cool character, coming across as a down-to-earth guy who seeks to make a difference with his new powers.
Quote: "Madre de Dios! Somebody get a can of bug spray!"
Powers/Tactics: El Diablo has very straightforward powers, beginning with the ability to fire bursts of flame from his hands, and use flame jets to make himself airborne. With experience, he gains other powers, like 'Fire It Up' (Force Field/HKA Damage Shield), 'Inferno' (Area Attack) and 'Ignition' (an Indirect Killing Explosion that acts by agitating an inanimate object to explode). El Diablo's main weakness is that he runs out of END quickly, not only because his initial power set costs a lot of energy, but because his 'Hot-Tempered' Disadvantage causes him to become almost Enraged in combat, making El Diablo inclined to Push his attacks even to the point of blacking out (i.e. burning STUN as END). However, El Diablo is also a skilled street fighter, and can fall back on his hand-to-hand skills if he doesn't have enough juice to use his flame powers.
Appearance: Ricardo Ramirez is a tall, muscular Latino with blue eyes, wavy black hair and a thin mustache. In costume, El Diablo wears a red mask over his eyes (tied back bandana-style) and a glossy black costume with a high collar and open chest, short sleeves and flame motifs on the sleeve edges, and a red sash with a golden belt buckle, the buckle containing a Devil's Trident symbol.
