Background/History: The boy Nick Craft was a huge fan of Minuteman and Freedom Force and once the group became officially organized, Nick became the founder and president of their Patriot City fan club. This meant that he was prone to getting himself into trouble for their sake, and as mentioned in Minuteman's writeup, Nick tried to save Minuteman's life (from the mutated mobster Pinstripe) and ended up taking a hail of bullets.

Nick was so badly hurt that Mentor took him back to the Freedom Fortress in the hope that his advanced medical lab would be able to save the boy's life. However, the main thing the youth needed was a blood transfusion, which Mentor couldn't provide. Wracked with guilt, Minuteman volunteered to donate his blood, despite Mentor's warnings that he didn't know what would happen when a person mutated by Energy X gave blood.

In fact, Nick made a miraculous recovery afterward, and spent some time at the Freedom Fortress convalescing. When Freedom Force went out to investigate Pinstripe's mob, Nick decided to make himself a costume in emulation of Minuteman, and smuggled himself onto one of the Mob's delivery trucks in order to spy on Pinstripe. This almost got Nick killed when the mobsters found him, but he managed to prevail and radio Freedom Force with the location of Pinstripe's headquarters. Minuteman was rather upset at what the boy had done, but had to admit that he'd done a good job for the team, and so agreed to accept Nick into Freedom Force as Liberty Lad.

Personality/Motivation: As a normal teenager, Nick idolized superheroes and wanted to spend time around them. He was essentially a good kid, but overconfident and prone to getting himself into trouble. He also got a little angry when Freedom Force tried to keep him away from their missions so he wouldn't get hurt. When Nick's impetuousness actually did get him hurt, he ended up getting powers and simply assumed that he could join the team. Fortunately he became as skillful as he was brave. While that bravery makes him a good protégé for Minuteman (at one point he practically took over leadership when Minuteman was framed for a crime and Freedom Force had to clear him) Liberty Lad is still prone to act rashly.

Powers/Tactics: Nick received his powers from Minuteman's blood transfusion, but while the power of Energy X has generally enhanced his physique (as it did Minuteman), the change seems to have made him somewhat faster than Minuteman, if not nearly as strong or durable. His main weakness is that he can't take a hit as well as most other members of the team; fortunately Liberty Lad is quick and clever, and uses his maneuverability to make sure he doesn't get hit. He also uses combat tricks like provoking enemies into exposing themselves or attacking their allies, and managed to procure a supply of stun grenades that he uses to set up enemies for getting punched out. In the game, Liberty Lad uses his experience to gain some more combat maneuvers and stunts, and gets different kinds of grenades (expanding the attack into a Multipower).

Appearance: Nick is a clean-cut kid in mid-adolescence, about 5'5" and lean, with light blue eyes and short brown hair. His Liberty Lad costume uses the same Revolutionary War-era motif as Minuteman's, in shades of powder blue, with white breeches and undershirt and a black mask over the eyes.
