Background/Personality: Mrs. Butterworth came to the forefront of the American media in a 1959 controversy. She was a black woman spokesperson for syrup, dressed up in slave regalia. The black community was outraged at her sellout status as a figurehead for The Man. Despite all the negative press, she stuck through the trying times of breakfast integration, and through her persistence and sweet spirit, she gradually won over many of her detractors, who now wouldn’t think of eating a pancake without her.
She has also become something of an icon for the American working woman, a sort of food-based Rosa Parks, paving the way for Little Debbie and Dolly Madison. Overcoming the odds, Mrs. Butterworth has shone as a champion for breakfast women’s rights, never compromising her integrity for popular opinion. For a brief time, she considered changing her title to Ms., since there is no Mr. Butterworth, but market research showed that sales would have plummeted, so she kept her misnomer title, since breakfast goodness is more important to her than a social message.
Quote: “Nothin’ helps a flapjack go down better than a sweet little dab of Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup. Here, have some, sugar.”
Tactics/Powers: Mrs. Butterworth is an animated jar of syrup. Since her body is made of glass (tough glass, but still), any attacks that are strong enough to crack her outer shell will injure both her attacker and herself, as shards break off.
She can throw globs of sticky syrup at opponents, slowing them down as they try to wade through the ooze.
Roleplaying Notes: Nell Carter meets Oprah.
